This area is responsible for promoting the creation, dissemination and preservation of local content integrated into a communication strategy for the defense of the territory and peace building.

Indigenous communicators have raised an increasing need to create their own content and have it disseminated in the national and international media spectrum in order to build new imaginaries, narratives, and propose dialogues aimed at respect, understanding of their ways of life and attention to their historical struggles and demands.

In order to achieve this, we rely on the elements of an content creation cycleThe project involves a constant going back and forth to the territory.

Axes of Work

Creation implies fostering the expressions of linguistic, cultural and artistic diversity that make up the territories, ensuring that those that have been minoritized, such as indigenous peoples, women, people with disabilities, children or migrants, can do so without discrimination. In education and training, the aim is to promote participatory training processes for trainers that broaden the spectrum of people who can generate content without depending on "specialized" people.

Training and support

Strengthen indigenous communicators and media in technical and organizational capacities to contribute to the sustainability of their communication processes.
Production is aimed at the creation of content through different audiovisual media, ensuring that the processes have the financial and human resources to carry them out. Exhibition and dissemination refers to the strategies and tools necessary to reach all media, platforms and spaces, whether traditional media, digital platforms, social networks or open-air film screenings, radio, community intranets or community film festivals. Finally, we seek to have a strategy for the protection and preservation of the content created, as it is part of the cultural heritage and memory of a community.

Mockingbird Song

Canto de Cenzontles is a radio magazine collectively driven by organizations of community, indigenous and Afro-descendant communicators that narrates the stories, joys, teachings and resistance of the people to make us resonate, imagine and build other worlds. A process woven with the Network of Communicators Boca de Polen, Radio Huaya, Radio Tsinaka, Radio Mayääw, Ojo de Agua Comunicación, Radio Cuenca de la Independencia, Radio Nahndía, La Coperacha and indigenous radio broadcasters.

Fondo Canto de Cenzontles

The Fondo para la Producción Radiofónica Comunitaria Canto de Cenzontles was created to support and increase the radio production capacities of community radio stations, responding to local needs and promoting collaborative work among them. For each edition of the Fund there is a face-to-face meeting, tutorials, accompaniment and production workshops. 

In the 2022 10 indigenous radio stations participated in the production of their own series. At 2023 a radio experimentation laboratory was promoted to create a collective series on the festival through new formats and narratives. At 2024 we premiered the series Historias sonoras de artes y creación comunitaria which includes 12 capsules produced by 6 indigenous radio stations/radio broadcasters.

Video letters from childhood

The video-letters are audiovisual productions in which children share their territory, history, identity and community culture from their own perspective. In the process, the children's expression, fun and confidence are encouraged, they learn about the realities of children from other territories and are introduced to the use of cameras and narrative creation for audiovisual production. So far, video-letters have been made with children from the Rarámuri, P'urhépecha, Nahua and Wayuu peoples, as well as a radiocartoon with young Afro-Colombian children.

Community film and video

It contributes to the needs of collective processes of film and video creation in indigenous communities. We organize workshops on screenwriting, film production, exhibition, as well as spaces for training and exchange of experiences and methodologies in production and exhibition of community cinema. Support is given to processes such as the International Festival of Tukuru Cinema (FICTUKURU)of the Cañada de los Once Pueblos in Michoacán, promoted by young P'urhépecha people, and collaborations are being forged with Ambulante, The place we inhabitthe Montes de María Audiovisual Festival (FAMMA) and the Wayuu Film and Video Showcase (MUCIWA) of Colombia.

Accompanying indigenous and community radio stations

Accompaniment is provided in the design and implementation of communication strategies for the defense of the territory and peace building, as well as workshops for the strengthening of technical and organizational capacities that contribute to the production and sustainability needs of the radio stations. Meetings are promoted for the exchange of experiences, collective production, creation of their own narratives, design of dissemination and editing strategies. We work with radio stations in Michoacán, Puebla, Oaxaca and Morelos.

Archive and community memory

Training activities and exchange of archiving and memory experiences for the preservation of community media content. Virtual and face-to-face meetings have been held, called archival tequios, to strengthen each archiving project, learn and exchange tools, techniques, methodologies and systematize the process for evaluation and reflection.
